Blainroe win the Powerscourt
Great news of our POWERSCOURT CUP team last Sunday. At a sun soaked Powerscourt West course we overcame a strong and sporting Glen Of the Downs team in the final.
We were led away by the Noel Sinnott / Liam Fitzpatrick combination, and after 3 holes Blainroe were up in 4 matches and level in 1. At the turn things still looked positive with again Blainroe in the lead in 4 out of 5 matches.
FIrst over the winning line were Team Manager Bill Maguire partnered by John Waters who won of the 15th. Our next win came on the 17th where Peter Burgess sank a super put to partner Dave Menzies to a win.
And now the tension built as we were only 1 hole ahead in 2 of the remaining matches. As the Noel Sinnott / Liam Fitzpatrick match went to the 19th hole, at the 17th Frank Barnett /' Paul Doyle scored a winning par to seal a vicrtory. The winning putt had only just gone in when we confirmed that Diarmuid O'Sullivan / Eamonn Harrington had just won their match on the 18th. Thus a 4.5 to .5 win was recorded.
Well done to all concerned and particularly to Team Manager, Player, Mentor, Agony Aunt, Bill Maguire. Bill extends his thanks to all players and subs, and also to the fantastic support from all sections within the club present in Powerscourt last Sunday. Below is the team and subs who took part.
